Artist Statement / Biography

Artist Statement

As a painter who has grown from the tradition of artists who work from nature, my starting point is in the landscape. I work outdoors each day, studying the values and color relationships in nature. I let myself be guided as much by the sense of touch as by the sense of sight, indeed all my senses are awakened and engaged by the act of painting. Every day I look for what Van Gogh calls “that which does not change in that which is ever-changing”, or the eternal.

Biography

Robin Oliver is a landscape painter who works directly from life to create paintings that resonate with the immediacy and spontaneity of nature. She seeks out contact with nature to spark her inner sense of the relatedness of things.

She first learned to paint in the landscape during a semester at Artists for Environment (located in the Delaware Water Gap) through the Philadelphia College of Art. She later attended the Marchutz School in Aix-en-Provence, France.

She spent nearly four years working in the south of France, learning to paint in the tradition of Cezanne and Van Gogh.

She now lives and paints in Southern New Hampshire.
