Artist Statement / Biography
JILL C FISCHMAN
Painter, Photographer
Fischman, a New York City native, studied Commercial Art at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York City. Her bold designs led her to a successful twenty-year business career in Editorial art direction and design. Jill’s journey took her down the pages of: Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour, Mirabella, European Travel & Life, and Parents magazines.
Twenty five years ago she moved to New Hampshire. Missing the buzz from her editorial days, Jill craved creative chaos. Maybe not quite as stressful as she experienced at the magazines, but she was starving for something more than graphic design freelance work. After one year, Jill met a Shakespearean actor who wanted to start up his own local theatre company, and invited her to help make the project a success. From building the business plan, to performing Shakespeare on stage at ten venues, to being filmed for a segment on WMUR, managing the first major professional stage production, “Twelfth Night”, to creating all original illustration, graphic design, and photography, for the five years she remained on the board as VP, until resigning from the company. “Rewarding as it was, it was time for me to move on.”
Fischman always wanted to return to the fine arts and paint. “I felt blocked, uncertain, and desperately needed to find out more about my creative self.” A few years ago, Jill repeated her study of the masters, with the assistance of an Art Coach she hired to assist her during this unraveling process. Coming from a career of deadlines, I felt confined. A metamorphosis took place in my discovery. As challenging and grueling as my study was, it definitely unblocked me. I paint from my soul, my heart. My paintings are my voice.”
Her commissioned work is a part of private collections throughout the U.S. and France.
