Artist Statement / Biography

Artist Statement

The color and imagery within my drawings and paintings is a personal expression of an awareness and sensitivity to our natural world. My work reflects the study of color and movement not captured by a perfect image of the moment.

I begin my work by drawing directly from nature, spontaneous sketches and observational drawings. This is followed by quiet studio time reflecting on both the visions and emotions of the moment. I frequently work in acrylic and watercolor to allow for change and layering as I develop the piece.

Biography

Before moving to Harrisville in 2010 I was a lifelong resident of the Boston area. I graduated with a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art. I have studied with Lawrence Kupferman, with additional studies at the DeCordova and Dana Museum, and the Experimental Etching Studio in Boston. After retiring as an art educator from the Framingham Public Schools I have pursued painting and poetry full time.
