Artist Statement / Biography

When I was in kindergarten my teacher selected me to illustrate the story Chicken Little in a big book format. The day that I was going to share it as part of a holiday program I developed a bad case of German Measles and I wasn’t allowed to go to school. I can remember how devastated I was and how I cried and sobbed all day. It ranked up there as one of the great disappointments of my childhood. I can remember receiving positive feedback and a satisfying feeling every time I created. When I really get in the zone while I’m creating, I leave and go to a place outside of myself which is extremely satisfying.

That is the when and why I knew that I would like to go to college and learn more about creating art. I went to U Mass Dartmouth and RISD where I graduated with a BFA in Graphic Design. Since then, I have explored many mediums over the years and I find things that I like and dislike with each. I like to work with a variety of mediums during different times of the year which I find gratifying. Currently, I am working with eco-printing which is a method of treating animal or plant based materials and then using leaves in the natural printing process. I have some wall hangings using this process. I enjoy creating collagraphs, solar prints and silk screens. Each of these printing processes I enjoy for different reasons: collagraphs give a great deal of texture to a piece, solar plates are a way to create an etching without the toxic chemicals, silk screens give you the opportunity to work with a variety of shapes and flat colors that I find satisfying. Encaustic painting is another medium I enjoy working with because you can create realistic and abstract images using a wide range of techniques. It is an ancient art in which you paint with colored wax and then fuse it with heat. It was first used during Egyptian times and is currently being experimented with in many ways. The final medium that I’m working with is silver, in which I enjoy creating a wide range of jewelry. I have created a line called Simplicity in which I will be presenting some of my original earring designs which are simple and clean with some moveable parts.

Come and visit my wide range of work at a variety of prices in my barn behind my house.
